The Sensex and Nifty both started the day in the green, with the Sensex opening at 60,845.55 and the Nifty opening at 18,322.55. The market has been on a roll lately, with the Sensex hitting a record high of 61,000 just last week. Investor confidence is high, and with the Christmas season just around the corner, there is optimism that the market will continue to perform well.

The 30-share BSE Sensex increased 123.53 points on Monday to reach 60,964.27. The NSE Nifty index as a whole increased by 47.9 points to 18,153.20.

Tata Steel, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, State Bank of India, Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank, and UltraTech Cement were among the top gainers from the Sensex pack.

The main laggards were Asian Paints, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies, and Power Grid.

According to VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, the robust GST receipts from last month show the economy’s resiliency.

In December 2022, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) receipts increased by 15% to $1.49 lakh crore, suggesting increased manufacturing production, increased consumer demand, and higher compliance.
