Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has achieved the first tunnel boring machine (TBM) breakthrough of Tunnel-8, the longest transportation railway tunnel in India, as part of the ambitious 125-km Rishikesh–Karnaprayag Broad Gauge Rail Link Project in Uttarakhand. The project, which consists of twin tunnels between Devprayag Janasu.
Stations, is being excavated with two TBMs, Shakti and Shiva, each with a boring diameter of 9.11 meters and equipped with advanced support systems.
