Reliance, L&T, Waaree Among 9 to Win Green Hydrogen Projects

Nine companies have been awarded tenders for setting up green hydrogen production facilities under the second tranche of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) scheme. The companies were selected from 14 tender bids and have been awarded incentives of Rs 5.13 billion to AM Green.

Ammonia and Rs 5.10 billion to Waaree Clean Energy Solutions. The Ministry of up hydrogen electrolyzer manufacturing and New and Renewable Energy invited bids for establishing 450,000 tonne per annum of green hydrogen capacity under this second phase. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in 2023, has an outlay of Rs 19,744 crore up.

FY 2029-30 to scale up domestic production. The winners are expected to invest approximately Rs 80,000 crore to realize the projected capacity. In a major push toward clean energy, Reliance Industries, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), and Waaree Energies are among the nine companies that have secured government-backed green hydrogen projects Will set production plants.

Government Initiative and Project Scope : The projects were awarded under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to position India as a global leader in green hydrogen production. The initiative provides incentives to boost domestic manufacturing and scale up hydrogen production using renewable energy sources.

The selected companies will develop green hydrogen production units across various locations, integrating cutting-edge electrolyzer technology and leveraging India’s vast solar and wind energy resources. The mission targets an annual production of 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Key Winners and Their Projects

  1. Reliance Industries: Plans to establish a large-scale green hydrogen production facility, integrating solar and wind energy These projects mark a significant milestone in India’s transition to renewable energy and align with the country’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 Focused on scaling up renewable hydrogen production using its expertise in solar technology.
  2. NTPC Green Energy: India’s largest power producer will develop hydrogen projects integrated with renewable energy park Plans to use green hydrogen for refining operations and decarbonization Focused on hydrogen production linked to wind energy projects Aims to create a hydrogen ecosystem with integrated renewable energy solutions Will develop hydrogen production units utilizing solar power.
  3. ACME Group: Engaged in establishing large-scale hydrogen and ammonia production plantsThe selection of these companies is expected to have transformative effects on India’s energy sector Sectors such as steel, cement, and chemicals will benefit from clean hydrogen as an alternative to fossil fuels India aims to become a key exporter of green hydrogen, catering to international markets such as Europe and Japan.
  • Energy Security: Green hydrogen will reduce India’s dependence on imported oil and gas.
  • Job Creation: The projects are expected to generate thousands of jobs in manufacturing, engineering, and renewable energy sectors Despite the progress, challenges remain in scaling up production and reducing costs. Key hurdles include.

High Initial Costs: Setting up electrolysis infrastructure and renewable energy integration requires significant investment Efficiently storing and transporting hydrogen remains a technological challenge Continuous government support and streamlined regulations are crucial for long-term success

The awarding of green hydrogen projects to top Indian companies signals a major step toward a sustainable energy future. With government backing and private sector expertise, India is poised to become a global hub for green hydrogen production, reinforcing its commitment to clean energy and carbon neutrality.

Reliance Industries, L&T, and Waaree Energies are among nine companies awarded green hydrogen projects under India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission. The reduce initiative aims to boost domestic hydrogen production, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and support industrial decarbonization.
