The Rajasthan forest administration plans to build a 20-kilometer elevated stretch through the Sariska Tiger Reserve (STR) at a cost of Rs. 2,200 crore. The long-awaited project aims to protect wild animals in the reserve, as big cats and other wild animals have been increasingly threatened by vehicular traffic, and the department will enlist the help of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to build the elevated road stretch.

During the recent visit of Union cabinet environment, forest and climate change minister Bhupendra Yadav, a proposal was forwarded to the chief wildlife warden (CWLW), who promised to take up the project on a fast track basis, and the proposal is now being sent to the Centre and NHAI. Three tigers, ST-13, ST-21, and ST-9, have been observed in the area, and vehicular traffic, which has increased dramatically, has become a major threat to wild animals.
