The Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) has notified that the construction of the 23-km-long Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar subway corridor has started, with an investment of 8,000 rupees. The project adopts a public-private partnership model and must be completed by concessionaire Tata Siemens within the next three years and four months. PMRDA Commissioner Suhas Diwase informed that the work will start simultaneously at eight locations along the route.
The preliminary work of the project and the geotechnical survey have been completed, and roadblocks have been set up on 70% of the construction sites; soil testing, structural design and foundry work have also begun. The corridor will connect the civil courts in Maan and Shivajinagar near Hinjewadi IT Park. It will take 40 minutes to complete the end-to-end commute of this 23-station route. The concessionaire will execute the project on the basis of design, construction, financing, operation and transfer. The initial concession period is 35 years. A few days ago, the center promised to provide 12.3 billion rupees as part of the feasibility gap funding.
The double-layer flyover in the University Square is about to replace the old one, and it has also received a green signal; the transportation authority has recommended changes in transportation to make way for construction projects. Hinjewadi Phase III and the roadblocks on Ganeshkhind Road are underway, and the transportation department will issue traffic management orders. This is the third subway corridor to be built in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. The other two routes-the 14-kilometer full-elevated Vanaz Ramwadi Corridor and the 16-kilometer Pimpri-Swargate Corridor, will run from Pimpri to Range Hills and thereafter underground ——Developed by MahaMetro.
