PM Modi to Relaunch Amaravati Construction; APCRDA Speeds Up Groundwork

The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has intensified ground levelling work in Amaravati ahead of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visit to relaunch the capital’s construction. The state government has finalized tenders worth ₹37,702 crore.

Aiming to develop Amaravati into a world-class city at an estimated cost of ₹62,000 crore. Financial support of over ₹26,000 crore has been secured from the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and HUDCO. Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana affirmed that Amaravati will be a self-sustaining project.

During his visit, the PM is expected to launch development projects worth ₹42,000 crore, marking the resumption of capital construction. The APCRDA has ramped up groundwork for the PM’s visit, levelling 250 acres and deploying 16 excavators, four heavy cranes, and six trucks at the site.

India records the highest number of road fatalities globally, with approximately 178,000 lives lost each year. Recognizing the need for a stronger emergency response system and spreading awareness, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Amrita Hospital launched a road safety initiative.

India’s data centre industry is expected to see a $6.5 billion investment boom between 2014 and 2024. The interstate bus terminus (ISBT) project in Jamshedpur has gained momentum with groundwork starting near Vasundhara Estate in Dimna along NH-33. Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has secured a ₹2,800 crore power transmission project in Gujarat to supply green energy for Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia production in Mundra.

RVNL has invited bids for the rehabilitation of the Bascule Bridge at the Kolkata Dock System (KDS) under Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port. The Noida Authority has laid the foundation stone for a 5.6 km elevated road from Chilla in Delhi to Mahamaya Flyover in Noida.

After a prolonged hiatus, the construction of Amaravati, the envisioned capital city of Andhra Pradesh, is set to resume with renewed vigor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Amaravati between April 15 and 20 to officially relaunch the development works, marking a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructural ambitions. ​

The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has been actively laying the groundwork for this revival. In December 2024, the state government approved a substantial investment of ₹24,276 crore for Amaravati’s development. This funding encompasses the construction of trunk roads, layouts, and iconic buildings, with a targeted completion timeline of three years to transform Amaravati into a global city.

Further demonstrating its commitment, the state has finalized tenders worth ₹37,702 crore, paving the way for simultaneous commencement of various construction activities. The decision to have Prime Minister Modi officiate the relaunch underscores the project’s national significance and the central government’s support. ​

The revival of Amaravati’s construction is also stimulating ancillary developments. For instance, the real estate market near Vijayawada’s West Bypass is experiencing a resurgence, with localities such as Payakapuram, Jakkampudi, Patapadu, and Gunadala emerging as prime investment destinations due to the renewed focus on the capital’s development.
