PM kick-starts ₹3,800 cr Kochi Metro Phase-II corridor

The Kochi Metro Phase 2 project, including an investment of 3,800 crores, has been launched by the Prime Minister. Phase 2 corridor will span 11.2 kilometres with 11 metro stations from JLN stadium metro station to Infopark, Kakkanad. The first section of work immediately undertaken by Kochi Metro Rail Limited is the Phase 1 extension.

When Phase IA is officially launched by the PM, the Kochi Metro will have 24 stations and at least a 27 kilometre route. On October 16, 2019, construction on the Panamkutty Bridge, SN Junction stations, and Vadakkekotta Bridge began. These projects were continuing throughout the covid pandemic.

The largest metro station is Vadakkekotta, with 4.3 lakh square feet in size. In contrast to other metro stations, this one has been designed with both big inside commercial spaces and contemporary amenities. In contrast to SN Junction, which highlights Ayurveda and its contemporary applications, it displays Kerala’s role in the freedom movement as its topic.
