NHPC-BEL inks solar equipment manufacturing pact

A preliminary agreement between the National Hydro Power Corporation and Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has been struck in order to establish a gigawatt-scale vertically integrated solar manufacturing factory in Bangalore. Vinay Kumar Katyal, Director (Bangalore Complex), BEL, and Biswajit Basu, Director (Projects), NHPC, signed an MoU.

The installation base of NHPC is 7071.2 MW, made up of 24 power plants, including two joint venture projects. It is working on building 11 projects with a combined installed capacity of 7,539 MW. In the fiscal year that just ended, NHPC power stations generated 24,855 MU (million units) and earned $8,181 in revenue from the sale of electricity, with a net profit of $3,538 crore.
