The National Highways Authority of India has decided to start construction of the NH-44 from Hyderabad to Bangalore, via Kurnool and Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, as a Super Information Highway (SIR) equipped with digital information systems.
NHAI assistant engineer M Bharat Bhushan informed that the four-lane road will be expanded into a six-lane expressway at an estimated cost of Rs 14,000 crore. The state-of-the-art road will display information such as distances to hospitals and petrol stations, as well as travel times, on digital boards.
The DPR (detailed project report) will be completed within the next three months and road works will begin within 12 months. Roads, flyovers, bridges, underpass bridges and service roads will be rebuilt and all toll plazas will be digitised along with the 251km SIR highway project.
