NHAI starts construction of ₹14,000 cr NH project

The 457-kilometer Vijayawada-Nagpur Express Highway has begun construction by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The 14,000-crore Greenfield-Brownfield Express Highway will link Maharashtra’s Vidarbha and speed up the transportation of industrial and agricultural goods. The NHAI had already approved a plan to construct the national highway.

Vijayawada-Khammam, Khammam-Warangal, Warangal-Manchiryala packages will be built as Greenfield Express Highways, while Manchiryala-Repallewada, Repallewada Chandrapur packages will be built as Brownfield Express Highways. The existing 4-lane Express Highway connects Chandrapur and Nagpur, and a 310-kilometer Greenfield and 147-kilometer Brownfield Express Highway are being built.

The cost and hassle of travelling between Vijayawada and Nagpur will be greatly reduced thanks to this highway. Vijayawada and Nagpur are currently separated by 770 kilometres, which can be travelled via Hyderabad and Adilabad in about 13 hours. The new express highway will run from Vijayawada to Nagpur via Khammam, Warangal, and Mancherial, cutting the distance between the two cities by 163 kilometres and five hours. The NHAI has accelerated land acquisition consultations with the governments of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra.
