The National Highway Authority of India has begun work on a 75-kilometer ring road around Jodhpur, which will cost $1,161 crore. Its goal is to connect the city’s five highways, which connect it to Jaipur, Nagaur, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Pali, and to relieve traffic congestion on the roads by allowing heavy traffic to bypass the city.

The project began in December 2018 and has now been restarted after being stalled for a variety of reasons. The new contractor was hired with the understanding that the remaining work would be completed within the same budget. Given this situation, as well as the exponential rise in raw material prices since the pandemic, it appears difficult, but NHAI officials have stated that the work will be completed in two phases over the course of two years. The first phase will link Dangiawas on the Jodhpur-Jaipur highway to Nagaur Road, and the second phase will link Nagaur Road to Dangiawas. The first phase of the 45-kilometer project has already begun, and the second phase’s construction tender has been issued. The new contractor has already begun work on the 45-kilometer first phase, and a letter of award has been issued for the second phase, which includes the construction of a 30-kilometer patch. Aside from two toll plazas, the entire 4-lane ring road will have two ROBs and 16 flyovers, as well as an underpass and two bridges.
