The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids for the development of the Vijayawada-Bengaluru Expressway. The project, which is estimated to cost Rs 19,200 crore, will be developed on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis.
The proposed e-way will start from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh and end at Bengaluru in Karnataka. It will cover a distance of approximately 588 km and will have a total of 12 lanes. The expressway will also have a provision for future expansion to 14 lanes.
The project will be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, the expressway will be developed from Vijayawada to Chittoor. In the second phase, the expressway will be developed from Chittoor to Bengaluru.
The NHAI has set a deadline of 30 months for the completion of the first phase and 36 months for the second phase. The authority has also stipulated that the developer will have to maintain the expressway for a period of 15 years.
