NHAI expedites ₹5,855-cr Chennai double-decker highway project
The 20.6 km double-decker elevated roadway between Chennai Port and Maduravoyal, with an estimated cost of 5,855 crore, is being built quickly by the National Highway Authority of India. Four portions of the two-tier, four-lane elevated corridor are being constructed; the 12 km segment between Maduravoyal on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway and the Napier Bridge close to the Chennai Port gate is double-decked. The Chennai Port, the state government, and the federal government are all involved in the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) phase.

Light vehicles will use the first level of the corridor to go between Koyambedu and the Chennai Port, while heavy motor vehicles will use the second level to travel between the port and Maduravoyal. It is anticipated that the corridor, which will feature ramps for entry and exit at 13 distinct sites, will greatly cut down on the amount of time it now takes freight traffic from the south or west of the state to go to the port on the Outer Ring Road. The route will take about 45 minutes if the elevated corridor is used.
