NHAI approves construction of ₹3,790-cr highway from Kochi to Munnar

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has approved the construction of a ₹3,790-crore highway from Kochi to Munnar. The highway, which is expected to be completed in three years, will be built by a consortium of companies led by the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). The highway will be four-laned and will have a length of approximately 200 km. It will start from Kochi and end at Munnar, passing through the towns of Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki.

The Kochi-Dhanushkodi NH 85 will be built between Kochi and Munnar and will cost $790 crore, according to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Between Kochi and Munnar, a short stretch of road will be expanded into a two-lane roadway with paved shoulders and retention walls to stop landslides. The project will increase connection for travellers and other road users and is anticipated to be finished in 30 months. The Kochi-Munnar-Theni corridor, which will construct a four-lane Greenfield National Highway and cost $3,000 crore, is another project being planned by NHAI. The corridor is anticipated to increase commercial traffic, including freight carriers, and connection between Kochi and Tuticorin ports.
