New dispute emerges between Nepal, India over embankment construction

The governments of Nepal and India are at odds again, this time over the construction of an embankment. Nepal alleges that the embankment, which is being built by India on Nepalese territory, violates the terms of a previous agreement between the two countries. India, for its part, says that the embankment is necessary for flood control and that Nepal is overreacting. The situation is further complicated by the fact that the embankment runs through an area that is considered holy by both Hindus and Buddhists. It is unclear how this latest dispute will be resolved, but it is clear that relations between Nepal and India are once again strained.
