In order to connect the 5.5 km long subterranean section between Delhi and Ghaziabad, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which is implementing the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project, has begun tunnelling operations. The underground segment would include one station at Anand Vihar, which will enable multi-modal integration amongst six forms of transportation, according to NCRTC Chief Public Relations Officer Puneet Vats.
Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi are connected by a 5.5-kilometer tunnel that has already begun construction. In addition, the NCRTC has begun work to connect Anand Vihar and Vaishali in Ghaziabad. The completed tunnels on both sides will be 6.5 metres wide and will allow RRTS trains, which have a high design speed of 180 kmph, to move more easily.
There will be two up and down rail lines along the full 5.5 km. The underground portion will have security elements like cross passageways, passenger side walkways, and ventilation shafts.
