Nagpur’s RoB is approved by Maharashtra for 326.53 crore.

A new railway over bridge (RoB) at Ajni near Nagpur, involving an investment of 326.53 crore, has been given the nod by the Maharashtra government. To ease traffic congestion in the area, the 1927-built Ajni RoB, built during the colonial era, would be changed into a 220m-long cable-stayed RoB.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) had previously requested administrative authorisation from the government to replace the current RoB with an eight-lane cable-stayed bridge and elliptical rotary junction. In actuality, the NMC had received the updated development project report for Ajni RoB from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Currently, heavy vehicle traffic is not permitted on the bridge due to its deteriorated state. As it needs additional possession of 1.58 hectares of land, including 10-meter-wide railway land, the local authority has also contacted Central Railway and the government health agency. The amended DPR from NHAI proposes replacing the old RoB as well as enhancing traffic flow on its west side, which connects three roads: FCI Godown, Rahate Colony, and Ajni Station.
