Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Launches 4th Steel Bridge

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Launches 4th Steel Bridge

A 100-meter-long steel bridge was inaugurated on August 25, 2024, as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project in Dadra & Nagar Haveli, close to Silvassa. Measuring 14.6 meters in height and 14.3 meters in breadth, the 1,464 MT steel structure was manufactured in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, and then brought to the installation location.

In order to launch the bridge without the need for intermediary supports, an 84-meter temporary launching snout weighing 600 MT was used. A total of 55,250 Tor-Shear Type High Strength.

(TTHS) bolts with C5 system coating and elastomeric bearings were used for the main bridge, while 27,500 High-Strength Friction Grip (HSFG) bolts were used for the launching nose. This is the fourth of 28 steel bridges that are intended to be built for the Bullet Train line, demonstrating the quality of Indian engineering and the country’s dedication to the “Make in India” campaign.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Launches 4th Steel Bridge

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has reached another milestone with the successful launch of its fourth steel bridge. This achievement marks significant progress in India’s first high-speed rail corridor, being developed by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) with technical and financial support from Japan.

Key Details of the Steel Bridge

The newly launched steel bridge spans across a major railway line, ensuring seamless connectivity along the high-speed corridor. Built with cutting-edge engineering techniques, the structure meets international standards for durability, safety, and high-speed rail operations.

The bridge was assembled in a phased manner using pre-fabricated steel girders, which were lifted and placed with precision to minimize disruptions to existing railway traffic. The use of steel bridges in the project ensures strength, longevity, and adaptability to the challenging terrain and environmental conditions.

Significance of the Project

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor is a flagship initiative under India’s vision for modernized rail infrastructure. With a design speed of 320 km/h, the project aims to significantly reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad from over six hours to approximately two hours.

The completion of the fourth steel bridge signifies steady advancement towards the project’s phased completion. NHSRCL is focusing on efficient execution, integrating advanced Japanese Shinkansen technology to ensure reliability and passenger comfort.

Future Prospects

With several other key infrastructure developments in progress, the bullet train project is expected to boost regional connectivity, enhance economic growth, and set new benchmarks for high-speed rail networks in India. The completion of additional steel bridges and other structures will further accelerate the project’s timely execution.
