MSRDC accelerates a Rs. 1,500crore railway project in Pune

The Maharashtra government has started laying the groundwork for a fast-tracked ring road project in Pune. Prajakta Tanpure, Minister of State for Urban Development, said the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation is in the process of floating a tender for the first phase of the project, which will be built on a public-private partnership (PPP) model and will cost Rs 1,500 crore.

The proposed ring road will provide access to the proposed Pune international airport at Purandar, making it easier and faster for citizens to get to the airport. The 170-kilometer-long Pune ring road will be an eight-lane express highway with a top speed of 120 kilometres per hour. It will separate city and highway traffic, resulting in a significant reduction in vehicular pollution. The state government believes that the mega project is necessary to relieve traffic congestion by diverting traffic through Pune on its way to other parts of Maharashtra.
