The government of Madhya Pradesh and the National Highway Authority of India have signed an agreement to build 14 ropeways throughout the state to reduce traffic in urban areas and popular tourist destinations.
The locations chosen for ropeway construction are Ujjain (between the railway station and Shri Mahakaal Mandir), Orchha (Rajaram Mandir), Gwalior (from the fort to Phoolbagh), Bhopal via Govindpura, and Bhopal (Kolar Road).
At well-known tourist destinations and historical locations, such as Mandu (from the Mandu entrance gate to Rupmati Palace), Omkareshwar (from Siddhkut Jain Mandir to Rajeshwar Ashram), Khajuraho (from Sneh Fall to Ken river bank), Raisen (from the Raisen parking lot to Raisen fort), Pachmarhi (from the Shiv Mandir parking lot to Chouragarh Shiv Mandir), Tam (Doodh dhara to Kapil dhara).
According to the agreement, the PWD department will provide NHAI with the land needed to build the ropeway as well as other logistical support.
