50 detailed project reports (DPRs) have been scheduled for completion by the Union Transport Ministry for the current fiscal year. Port connectivity projects have been given significant priority as part of the Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti strategy because of its significance in facilitating trade and boosting support for multi-modal transportation. To increase road connectivity to ports, the government has prioritised 65 road projects totaling 2,041 km in length, of which 9 projects totaling 161 km have been completed, 5 projects totaling 105 km have been awarded under the port connectivity component, and 4 projects totaling 992 km are being developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojna.
On the remaining 47 projects, totaling 783 km in length, steps are being taken to complete DPRs and other formalities. In order to improve the logistical effectiveness and cargo handling capacity at all ports across the nation, port connectivity road projects are being constructed to complete the last mile link. The program’s goal is to connect all of the nation’s ports—major and minor—as well as inland waterway terminals—in order to build a comprehensive network that will facilitate effective and unimpeded freight movement.
