During his visit to the Paradip Port Authority (PPA), Shri T.K. Ramachandran, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), officially opened numerous major projects worth over ₹13 crore. The Trauma and Burn Care (TBC) Center, located in the recently built Paradip Port Hospital Annex building, was one of the major new openings. Constructed at an expense of ₹2.90 crore, this facility is expected to offer vital therapeutic and rehabilitation services for burn and trauma sufferers in the Paradip area.
He placed the cornerstone for the PPA’s new water treatment facility. This factory, which would require an investment of ₹10.50 crore, will use raw water from the Taldanda Canal to filter 16 million liters of water each day. The plant, which is expected to be completed by December 2024, would guarantee that Port Township inhabitants have access to clean drinking water and greatly enhance Paradip Port’s water infrastructure. While speaking with several department heads and deputy heads, Shri Ramachandran also examined how the PPA operated. He recommended system upgrades to increase productivity after inspecting port operations and expansion projects at the Mechanized Coal Handling Plant, JSWPTPL’s Twin Wagon Tipplers, and KICT silos.
In the fiscal year 2023–2024, Paradip Port—the largest significant port in Odisha with the biggest cargo handling capacity—reached a record cargo throughput of 145.38 million metric tonnes (MMT). It is anticipated that the Secretary’s proposals would increase the port’s capacity and improve its operations, which will support its long-term development and prosperity.
