The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MoHUA) has expedited the MetroLite project for the cities of Jammu and Srinagar, which is expected to cost $10,599 crore. Before submitting the project to the Union Cabinet for final approval, all necessary formalities have been completed. The PIB has given its approval to the project.
Only up to Bari Brahmana has the MetroLite project for Jammu been approved. On the grounds that extending it beyond Bari Brahmana in the first phase would cause the project to be further delayed because a new Detailed Project Report (DPR) would have to be prepared, the MoHUA has agreed to extend it up to the upcoming All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Vijaypur in the second phase.
