The amount is a contribution towards the construction of metro rail corridors.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has received INR 1,000 crore ($135m) from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for upgrading public infrastructure in Mumbai, specifically for metro rail corridor construction, as part of a total payment of INR 5,000 crore ($675m) to the BMC.
Multimodal projects, including a Rs 19,800 crore metro rail project, have been completed under the Centre’s policy, with 25% funding from the local municipal corporation, 25% from the state government and implementing agency, and 50% through loans.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is constructing 337 km of metro rail lines, with 20 km of Lines 7 and 2A currently in operation. Construction for other corridors is underway. MMRDA plans to acquire Metro-1 from Mumbai Metro One, with a state cabinet approval of Rs 4,000 crore.
