Ministry of Mines Hosts Granite & Marble Mining Workshop in Bengaluru

A workshop on the granite and marble mining industry was recently held in Bengaluru by the Ministry of Mines. Key speakers at the event included Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, Additional Chief Secretary & Development Commissioner of Karnataka, and Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, to talk about important reforms and measures aimed at improving the industry.

Shri V.L. Kantha Rao highlighted the several steps the Indian government has done to modernise and simplify the mining industry. To increase efficiency and transparency, he urged state governments to enact comparable changes in the small minerals industry. The National Geo-Data Repository (NGDR) Portal, which offers extensive data and information on mineral exploration, was emphasised by Rao. Driven by information gathered from central authorities, this portal intends to increase efficiency and transparency by providing all stakeholders with access to exploration data.

Dr. Shalini Rajneesh emphasised in her keynote speech the value of industry-government cooperation in addressing administrative, technological, and other sector-specific problems. She emphasised the need for all economic activity, including mining, to be sustainable and embraced the creative solutions provided by startups to address the problems facing the sector. In order to maintain transparency and lower the number of grievances, Dr. Shalini also emphasised the significance of using IT platforms to handle important parts of the mining industry. This strategy fits in with the government’s larger initiative to digitally alter a number of industries.
