Meghalaya govt launches ₹121 cr water supply project

In East Garo Hills, Meghalaya’s chief minister laid the groundwork for Williamnagar Urban Water Supply Project Phase I. This project will cost 121 crore rupees and be funded by AMRUT 2.0 using a 90:10 funding ratio. The project will provide the town’s water needs through the year 2050.

Construction of the intake, installation of a 500mm diameter MS gravity main, construction of the treatment facility, installation of MS feeder mains, construction of 8 out of 14 elevated service reservoirs, and installation of HDPE distribution pipes to 4 wards of the town, covering a total of 7,229 households, are all included in Phase I of the project.

The construction of the remaining 6 (six) ESRs, the laying of a new distribution system to the remaining wards, the construction of approach roads, the drawing of the power line, the construction of staff quarters in the WTP & Control area, the enhancement of the current water supply scheme, the installation of monitoring system (SCADA), among other things, are included in the project’s other component. These activities will be carried out under Phase II of the project.
