MahaMetro Submits DPR for ₹3,357 Cr Twin Corridors in Pune
In a major step toward enhancing Pune’s public transportation system, MahaMetro (Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation) has submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the much-anticipated twin metro corridors in the city. With an estimated cost of ₹3,357 crore, the project aims to significantly improve urban mobility in Pune, reduce traffic congestion, and contribute to the city’s economic growth by providing an efficient, reliable, and sustainable public transport solution.
Overview of the Twin Metro Corridors
The proposed metro corridors in Pune will consist of two lines that span critical areas of the city, with the objective of improving connectivity between the eastern and western parts of Pune. The two corridors, which are part of the Pune Metro Phase-II project, will be designed to meet the growing demand for public transportation in a city that is rapidly expanding due to increased urbanization and economic development.
- Corridor 1 (Hinjewadi to Shivaji Nagar): The first corridor will connect Hinjewadi, a prominent IT hub, with Shivaji Nagar, a major commercial and educational district in the city. The distance covered by this corridor will be approximately 23 kilometers.

This 23-kilometer stretch will serve a broad spectrum of passengers, including students, professionals, and residents, by offering them a high-speed, reliable alternative to crowded roads and traffic jams. Both corridors are expected to ease congestion on existing road networks, thereby reducing travel time and enhancing the overall quality of life for commuters.
