The Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has awarded a sizable order to Larsen and Toubro (L&T) for the Daman Upside Development Project-Wellhead Platforms & Pipelines (DUDP-WP), which is located off the west coast of India. This announcement was made on Thursday.
It further stated that the engineering, procurement, building, installation, and commissioning of four wellhead platforms, a 140-kilometer pipeline, and related topside improvements at the Tapti Daman block at an offshore site in Western Australia are all included in the scope of work.
“This order demonstrates ONGC’s confidence in L&T forged through execution of multiple complex offshore projects and also reinforces L&T’s commitment to contribute towards India’s energy security,” stated Subramanian Sarma, Whole-time Director & President (Energy), L&T.
The company states that important orders are valued between Rs 5000 crore and Rs 7000 crore, mega orders are valued beyond Rs 7000 crore, and substantial orders are valued between Rs 1000 crore and Rs 2500 crore. Large orders are valued between Rs 2500 crore and Rs 5000 crore.
Multinational corporation L&T is involved in high-tech manufacturing, services, and EPC projects. It is active in more than 50 nations globally.
In June 2024, Larsen & Toubro (L&T)‘s Hydrocarbon vertical, known as L&T Energy Hydrocarbon (LTEH), secured a substantial offshore contract from the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for the Daman Upside Development Project-Wellhead Platforms & Pipelines (DUDP-WP), located off India’s west coast. This project encompasses the engineering,
procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of four wellhead platforms, along with the installation of 140 kilometers of subsea pipelines and associated subsea infrastructure. The initiative aims to enhance ONGC’s oil and gas production capabilities in the region.
In July 2024, LTEH further expanded its collaboration with ONGC by securing an order for the eighth phase of the Pipeline Replacement Project (PRP-VIII Group B). This contract involves the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning.
129 kilometers of subsea pipelines, along with associated modification works across ONGC’s offshore fields on India’s west coast. The primary objective of this project is to replace and upgrade existing pipeline infrastructure to ensure the continued efficiency and safety of hydrocarbon transportation.
These strategic projects underscore L&T’s robust capabilities in executing complex offshore assignments and highlight ONGC’s confidence in L&T’s expertise. Subramanian Sarma, Whole-time Director & President (Energy) at L&T, remarked, “This order demonstrates ONGC’s confidence in L&T forged through execution of multiple complex offshore projects and also reinforces L&T’s commitment to contribute towards India’s energy security.”
L&T classifies its projects based on value: ‘Significant’ projects range between ₹1,000 crore and ₹2,500 crore, while ‘Large’ projects are valued between ₹2,500 crore and ₹5,000 crore. The Daman Upside Development Project falls under the ‘Large’ category, whereas the Pipeline Replacement Project is deemed ‘Significant’.
These developments not only bolster India’s offshore oil and gas infrastructure but also reinforce L&T’s position as a leading player in the hydrocarbon sector, committed to advancing the nation’s energy capabilities.
