The first hydrogen filling station in Salzburg was inaugurated, marking a significant milestone in sustainable energy use. The event focused on alternative drives, including a demonstration of a hydrogen wheel loader and the construction of a hydrogen-powered filling station.
Liebherr’s L 566 H is the world’s first prototype large wheel loader with a hydrogen engine, ideal for large vehicles with high energy requirements and high CO2 emissions, proving that battery-electric solutions are not suitable.
Liebherr’s Components product segment in Switzerland produces hydrogen engines with zero greenhouse gas emissions and nitrogen oxides, enabling efficient, comparable thermal and mechanical interfaces to diesel engines, advancing sustainable machinery development. The show showcased a MAN truck with a hydrogen engine, showcasing the feasibility of hydrogen technology in wheel loaders and construction site trucks.
Liebherr Bischofshofen opened its first hydrogen filling station in Salzburg, partnering with Maximator Hydrogen, a key manufacturer and research partner in the hydrogen wheel loader development project. The partners are developing mobile filling facilities for machinery refueling at construction sites, especially for remote machines, and MPREIS for green hydrogen production, ensuring sustainable and climate-friendly energy sources.
