In June 2024, IRB Infrastructure Developers Limited, along with the IRB Infrastructure Trust, reported a significant 35% year-on-year increase in toll revenue, amounting to ₹517 crore compared to ₹383 crore in June 2023. This robust performance contributed to a 32% rise in toll collections for the first quarter of FY25, totaling ₹1,556 crore, up from ₹1,183 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Key Contributors to Revenue Growth

Several factors have been instrumental in driving this impressive growth:

  1. Tariff Revisions: The implementation of updated toll tariffs has directly enhanced revenue streams. These revisions have been strategically aligned with current economic conditions and traffic patterns, ensuring optimal toll rates that reflect the value provided to commuters.
  2. Infrastructure Expansion: IRB’s ongoing commitment to expanding and upgrading its infrastructure network has played a crucial role. The development of new expressways and the enhancement of existing routes have improved connectivity and reduced travel times, making tolled routes more attractive to users.
  3. Economic Growth: The broader economic upturn has led to increased vehicular movement across the country. As commercial activities intensify, the demand for efficient transportation routes rises, resulting in higher toll collections.

Project-Specific Performance

A detailed analysis of individual Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) under the IRB Infrastructure Trust reveals varied performance metrics:

  • CG Tollway Limited: Reported a slight increase in toll collection, with ₹311 million in June 2024 compared to ₹303 million in June 2023.
  • Udaipur Tollway Limited: Experienced growth, collecting ₹274 million in June 2024, up from ₹228 million in the same month the previous year.
  • Palsit Dankuni Tollway Private Limited: Saw a decrease in revenue, with collections of ₹135 million in June 2024, down from ₹153 million in June 2023.

These figures indicate that while the overall trend is positive, individual project performance can vary based on regional factors and traffic dynamics.

Strategic Insights and Future Outlook

Deputy CEO Amitabh Murarka emphasized the company’s strong start to FY25, attributing the growth to effective operational strategies and recent tariff revisions. He expressed optimism about maintaining this positive trajectory in the upcoming quarters, highlighting the company’s focus on infrastructure development and efficient toll collection mechanisms.
