Indian Railways has lined up around Rs 7.33 lakh crore worth of new projects for the next two to three years that includes about Rs 1.60 lakh crore of investment on doubling and third-line works and Rs 1.07 lakh crore on setting up new locomotive and coach factories.
“We have prepared a list of 1,100 projects at an estimated cost of Rs 7.33 lakh crore for the next two to three years. Out of this, investment on doubling and third-line works is Rs 1.60 lakh crore and for new locomotive and coach factories, it is Rs 1.07 lakh crore,” Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav said.
He said the list of new projects has been sent to the Ministry of Finance for approval.
“We have also asked for Rs 1.10 lakh crore as budgetary support from the government and the rest of the amount will be raised through extra-budgetary resources,” Yadav said.
The national transporter is targeting to commission about 3,600 km of new lines, 5,000 km of doubling and third lines, and 5,000 km of gauge conversion in the next two to three years.
