In a major push for infrastructure development in the border areas of the two countries, India and Nepal have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build a motorized bridge over the Mahakali River connecting Dachula (India) and Dachula (Nepal) The initiative has been described as a sign of support for infrastructure projects in the Himalayas.

The MoU was signed by Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Ambassador of India to Nepal, and Rabindra Nath Shrestha, Secretary, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Government of Nepal, in the presence of Renu Kumari Yadav, Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Government of Nepal. The proposed bridge will provide a motorized cross-border connection with Nepal in the region.

The project will enhance cross-border connectivity between Nepal’s Sudurpaschim province and the Indian state of Uttarakhand, spanning the Mahakali River, where ancient traditions, cultures and people-to-people ties exist between communities on both sides of the border. This is in line with the shared priorities of both governments to expand cross-border connectivity to simplify business, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
