India leads Asia Pacific region in generative AI adoption: Report

India’s use of Generative AI (GenAI) is demonstrated in a research produced by Deloitte titled Generative AI in Asia Pacific: Young Employees Lead as Employers Play Catch-Up. Out of 13 nations, India ranks first in terms of the use and adoption of GenAI, according to a poll conducted among 11,900 people in Asia Pacific. It is astounding to learn that 83% of Indian workers and 93% of students actively use this technology.

India has a good adoption rate of GenAI, which is driven by youthful, tech-savvy workers known as “Generation AI.” These young employees are increasing productivity, learning new skills, managing workloads, and saving time by utilising GenAI. Employers are facing new possibilities and problems as a result of this shift.

Over the next five years, the research projects an 182% growth in the everyday utilisation of GenAI. This increase is a reflection of optimism in GenAI’s ability to strengthen Asia Pacific’s position in the world economy. Seventy-five percent of Indians think it will help the economy, and eighty-three percent think it would improve social consequences.

Important conclusions:

  • In Asia Pacific, employees and students are spearheading the GenAI revolution, but just half of them think their supervisors are aware of their use.
  • Around 1.1 billion hours a year, or 17% of working hours in Asia Pacific, might be impacted by GenAI.
  • Compared to wealthy economies, developing nations are adopting GenAI at a rate of 30% quicker.
India’s GenAI users save 7.85 hours a week, compared to Asia Pacific’s 6.3 hours.
  • Forty-one percent of people who have saved time using GenAI claim that their work-life balance has improved.
  • Employees at these firms claim that seventy-five percent of them are not using GenAI yet.

The AI & Data Capability Leader for Deloitte Asia Pacific, Chris Lewin, stated, “One of the most exciting aspects of working with GenAI is that it is happening to everything, everywhere, all at once across the globe.” Over the past 12 months, we have seen that teams in Italy and Ireland can very immediately relate to the issues that our clients in Indonesia or India are facing. One important lesson is that companies which are unable to adjust will suffer from the swift adoption of AI, rather than employment being eliminated outright. Rival companies that are delivering AI applications that have the potential to completely change the nature of modern work will attract their employees, especially those who are fresh to the workforce.
