Govt unveils Border Infra Development Authority

The government plans to establish a Border Infrastructure Management Authority (BIMA) to develop world-class infrastructure along the country’s entire border belt. BIMA will oversee the planned and comprehensive development of infrastructure, including roads, rail, water, power, and communication networks. Its goal is to improve the ongoing development of specific areas by increasing public-private partnership (PPP) investment and allocating funds to complete projects.

In comparison to China, road head connectivity to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is still lacking. This is especially true in Arunachal Pradesh. The plan for integrated infrastructure development is being developed with the understanding that the people who live along the LAC should be considered strategic assets. The government has launched a flagship programme called ‘Vibrant Border Villages’ to improve facilities in villages along the Indo-China, Indo-Pakistan, Indo-Nepal, and Indo-Bangladesh borders.
