Gogo Completes Construction of Nationwide 5G Network

The statewide 5G air-to-ground communication network for Gogo Business Aviation has been completed, the firm announced on Monday during the NBAA-BACE 2022 meeting in Orlando, Florida (Booth 4040; Static AD 207).

According to Gogo, the company’s 5G network, the first in-flight 5G Wi-fi service in North America, currently serves the 48 contiguous states of the United States and will start to reach Canada in 2019. By the end of this year, the service is anticipated to be introduced in the United States.

“Our team was tough and surmounted a multitude of problems, including Covid-19, weather, the supply chain, and geopolitical concerns,” said Gogo President and Chief Operating Officer Sergio Aguirre. “They achieved it in less than 12 months.” “Our network deployment and field operations teams have accomplished some amazing things,”

Customers may “future-proof” their in-flight connection systems using Gogo’s Avance platform, which offers simple upgrade pathways to the provider’s 5G network and its upcoming global low-Earth orbit satellite-based solution. According to Gogo, the service is anticipated to offer download speeds of approximately 25 Mbps on average and peak speeds of up to 80 Mbps once it is made accessible.

Until the X3 line replaceable unit (LRU) is made available, Gogo customers who want to upgrade to the 5G network can install the company’s Avance L5 system with full 5G provisions, including the belly-mounted MB13 5G antennae, and use 4G service.
