Galena Mining achieves 73% construction progress at Abra Base Metals Mine

At its Abra Base Metals Mine in the Gascoyne Region of Western Australia, Galena Mining Ltd (ASX:G1A) has made significant progress in the building process, completing it to a 73 percent completion rate.

The remaining mill machinery, secondary and tertiary cone crushers, and the remaining LNG tanks are among the important pieces of equipment that have recently arrived on site.

Another important construction milestone is also achieved with the installation of the 16,000 solar panels.

Galena managing director Tony James described the construction operations as “rapidly moving,” noting that structural steel installation had reached 237 tonnes and concrete pouring had reached 2,378 cubic metres (95 percent completion) (42 percent complete).

The remaining mill equipment, secondary and tertiary cone crushers, and LNG tanks arrived from overseas, which undoubtedly decreased risk and energised the remaining work programmes.

“Decline mining delays happened over a 12-day period in June when the decline came across a drill hole that wasn’t properly grated and produced water, necessitating an increase in pumping capacity.

“This was corrected very away, and the mine plans were revised to keep the mining timeline congruent with the schedule for building and completing the plant.

In order to prepare for ore mining as anticipated, underground grade control drilling continued in June.

Abra’s development
Overall development is still on track for project completion in the March quarter of 2023, followed by the start of commercial production.

Engineering, procurement, and construction of the processing plant are 79 percent complete.

The regrind mill is currently shipping from Germany and is anticipated to arrive in Melbourne, while the flotation cells have been finished and are ready for delivery from China.

When the west decline blocked an unrouted diamond drill hole in June, needing an upgrade in the mine’s dewatering capacity, the development of the mine decline was delayed for 12 days.

The tailings storage facility (TSF) surface bulk earthworks made good progress in June.

The remaining non-processing infrastructure’s last work package is going according to schedule.
