Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, has promised to speed up work on a long-planned double-decker cable-stayed bridge that would span the Krishna River and link Sangameshwar, Andhra Pradesh, with Somashila, Telangana. The project, worth ₹1,082.56 crore, has been postponed for two years. Its objectives are to increase environmental and temple tourism, provide a safer commute, and reduce the journey time to Tirupati by 70-80 kilometers, which can save up to 90 minutes.
