Gadkari: No Fund Shortage; Rs 7 Lakh Cr in Road Projects This Year, Rs 10 Lakh Cr Annually by FY27

The government will award ₹7 lakh crore worth of road projects in 2025–2026 and increase the target to ₹10 lakh crore annually starting in the next fiscal year, according to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. He also said that the process is transparent, time-bound, and free of corruption, and that there is no shortage of funding.

Speaking at the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers’ Association’s (ICEMA) annual conference, the Minister said that the Bharatmala project’s cancelation had caused a little slowdown in the industry during the previous 12 months. However, we have already given ₹2 lakh crore worth of road projects this year, and by the end of this year, we hope to award an additional ₹5 lakh crore, bringing the total to ₹7 lakh crore. Additionally, he stated his aim to surpass the peak building rate of 37 km per day in 2020–21 and reach a daily rate of 100 km.

Gadkari underlined how important it is for building equipment to be sustainable and technologically advanced. In addition to being more cost-effective and lucrative, he said, “green fuel, electric, and hydrogen-based vehicles are also environmentally responsible.” All parties involved gain from the strategic decision to implement sustainable practices. Global demand will increase dramatically if the CE sector adopts sustainability, quality, and innovation. He encouraged the CE sector to spend money on high-capacity equipment for pre-cast building and tunneling. “The availability of machinery continues to be a hurdle in the construction of tunnels valued at ₹3 lakh crore. We must modify the sophisticated tunnel boring machinery used in European countries to suit Indian circumstances. Many projects now require precast, which calls for specialized equipment. I implore your sector to take the initiative in these areas.

“We are bringing a new bill in the next Parliament session to address the challenges the CE industry faces in competing with global players,” the Minister added, assuring industry members of upcoming governmental assistance. We have taken note of your concerns and will take appropriate action. “We must make skilling mandatory for all operators in order to build a safer, more efficient future,” stated V. Vivekanand, President of ICEMA and Managing Director of Caterpillar India, in a request for the Hon’ble Minister’s assistance. Improving quality, reducing risk, and enabling long-term production are more important than merely adhering to regulations. We would like the Hon. Minister’s opinion on requiring this in our sector. “We stand at a critical juncture where innovation, sustainability, and workforce development will shape our growth,” stated Deepak Shetty, President-Designate, ICEMA and CEO & Managing Director of JCB India, in his closing remarks. India’s ability to compete globally depends on embracing digital revolution and bolstering indigenous manufacturing. We are totally dedicated to environmentally friendly operations and welcome any partnerships that help the CE industry move toward a cleaner, greener future.

The importance of the construction equipment sector to India’s infrastructure development was reaffirmed during the ICEMA Annual Session in 2025. Through advanced technology, sustainable practices, and increased global competitiveness, the sector is well-positioned to propel development toward Viksit Bharat 2047 with the joint commitment of government and industry leaders.
