The first tunnel breakthrough of TBM Mahavir at Patna University Metro Station on Line 2 is a major milestone for the Patna Metro Phase 1 project. This is a significant development for the 8 kilometre subterranean Package PC-03, which runs from Patna Junction Railway Station and Rajendra Nagar. China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. (CRCHI) built the 6.65 m diameter Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) machine known as TBM Mahavir. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) awarded Larsen & Toubro the ₹1989 crore contract in December 2021. With two routes, Line 1 (East-West) and Line 2 (North-South), the 39.1 km Phase 1 project is anticipated to be finished by 2027. The priority part is probably going to be finished by August 2024.
