The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is implementing effective monsoon management on national highways.

NHAI is implementing flood preparedness measures and emergency response strategies to address waterlogging on National Highways during monsoon, collaborating with agencies, local authorities, and administrations to mobilize machinery and manpower.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is implementing effective monsoon management on national highways.

The NHAI and state irrigation departments jointly audit new roadways to make sure they don’t impede the flow of channels or streams in order to prevent waterlogging on highways. Recently, the Delhi-Katra Motorway and other projects were the subject of special inspections.

Enough pumping preparations will be provided for metropolitan areas that frequently experience waterlogging. The Rajmaargyatra app and Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) will offer real-time information about any obstructions on highways.

In hilly areas, landslide-prone locations are manned by specialised emergency response teams equipped with enough equipment and personnel. To preserve connectivity around-the-clock, these workers will quickly clear debris. In order to guarantee safe traffic circulation, temporary barriers and warning signs are erected at these places.

The NHAI is identifying areas that are at risk of rockfalls, landslides, and floods. Buildings with a history of flooding are being inspected by officials to look for possible damage. There will be warning signs put up to inform drivers.

For locations vulnerable to significant landslides, alternative diversion plans have been developed in collaboration with local administrations. As a trial project, geotechnical instrumentation is being installed, including real-time monitoring at susceptible slopes and tunnels.

By taking these preventative measures, we hope to guarantee flood readiness, facilitate emergency response, and offer smooth travel for users of the National Highway system throughout the monsoon season.

NHAI Implements Effective Monsoon Management on National Highways

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated a comprehensive monsoon management strategy to ensure smooth and safe travel on national highways during the rainy season. Given the challenges posed by heavy rainfall, flooding, and waterlogging, NHAI is implementing proactive measures to maintain road infrastructure and enhance commuter safety.

Key Measures for Monsoon Preparedness

  1. Drainage and Waterlogging Prevention – NHAI has intensified efforts to clean and maintain drainage systems along highways to prevent water accumulation. Culverts, stormwater drains, and cross-drainage structures are being inspected and upgraded where necessary.
  2. Landslide and Erosion Control – In hilly and landslide-prone areas, NHAI is reinforcing slopes with geo-textiles, retaining walls, and plantation drives to reduce soil erosion and prevent blockages. Road Maintenance and Pothole Repairs – Rapid response teams have been deployed to identify and repair potholes, cracks, and surface damages caused by heavy rains, ensuring smooth traffic flow.
  3. Traffic Management and Emergency Response – Control rooms and highway patrol teams have been mobilized to provide real-time traffic updates and immediate assistance in case of accidents or road blockages. Coordination with State Authorities – NHAI is working closely with state disaster management agencies to implement safety measures, issue alerts, and deploy rescue operations if needed.

Ensuring Safe and Smooth Travel

With these proactive measures, NHAI aims to minimize disruptions, reduce accidents, and enhance road safety during the monsoon. Travelers are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and traffic advisories while driving in rainy conditions.

By adopting advanced planning and technology-driven solutions, NHAI is reinforcing India’s national highway network against monsoon-related challenges, ensuring safer and more efficient road transport.
