At several terminals of Indira Gandhi International Airport, including Aerocity, Delhi International Airport Private Limited (DIAL) plans to construct a direct train facility. The project would cost 2,500 crores and should take 3 to 4 years to complete. In order to ensure smooth transportation of air travellers to different terminals at the IGI Airport, the 5.1 km long train project will be partially underground, surface, and raised up to terminal three. The train will have 4 stations, one of which will be near the freight terminal and should allow for easy connection to Metro lines.
The other three stations would be located at T1, Aerocity, and a shared T1-T2/4 terminal. DIAL is also developing the project’s automated people mover (APM) finance scheme. In order to complete the project, the airport’s administration has engaged top global firms from Europe and Japan and is analysing various technologies.
