Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 will be fully operational from April 16, handling 40 million passengers annually. Terminal 2 will close for repairs, with maintenance work starting the next day. IndiGo and SpiceJet will relocate to the all-domestic Terminal.

​Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi is set to enhance its passenger experience with the full reopening of the expanded Terminal 1 (T1) on April 15, 2025. This development coincides with the temporary closure of Terminal 2 (T2) for extensive renovations aimed at modernizing its facilities.​

Terminal 1 Expansion Details

The Phase 3A expansion project has significantly transformed T1, tripling its area from 60,000 square meters to 169,000 square meters. This expansion integrates TO departure and arrival operations under one roof, streamlining passenger movement and enhancing convenience.

Impact on Flight Operations

During T2’s closure, all flight operations previously handled by this terminal will be relocated to T1. Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for updated terminal information to ensure a seamless travel experience. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has assured that these transitions are being managed meticulously to minimize disruptions.

Additional Infrastructure Upgrades

In addition to terminal enhancements, IGIA has introduced India’s first dual elevated cross taxiways, reducing taxiing distances for aircraft from approximately 9 kilometers to 2 kilometers. Furthermore, the airport’s fourth runway, measuring 4,400 meters in length and 75 meters in width, became operational on July 14, 2023, further boosting the airport’s capacity and efficiency.
