Declare ERCP a national project and increase CSS aids: Gehlot informs PM

Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) national project status and increased funding for various centrally sponsored programmes are demands made by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

He was speaking on Sunday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi during the seventh meeting of the Governing Council of the NITI Aayog.

Gehlot has repeatedly engaged in verbal exchanges with Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat over the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged “forgetting” of the promises made to the state. This time, he addressed Modi directly to make his demand.

Gehlot made a strong case for his state’s issues in the meeting that Modi presided over, stating that the ERCP, an ambitious project costing Rs 37,000 crore, will help improve irrigation infrastructure over an area of about 2 lakh hectares in 13 districts of Rajasthan.

He claimed that eastern Rajasthan is a major region for oilseed production. Additionally, making it a national initiative will address the districts’ issues with potable water.

The chief minister said that it will also aid in the successful execution of the Jal Jeevan Mission, reminding the prime minister of his earlier promises to take a positive stance with regard to this project.

According to him, the modifications made to the financial participation patterns in various centrally sponsored schemes have resulted in an increased financial burden on the states. He demanded that the Center release the approximately Rs 3,780 crore in GST compensation that is due as of 2017–18 in a lump sum and extend the GST compensation period by five years, to June 2027.

According to Gehlot, Rajasthan has established itself as a leader in the provision of free healthcare to the general public. Under the “Nirogi Rajasthan Yojana,” the entire course of treatment is provided without charge, and all tests are also performed without charge.

The next step in this direction is the “Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Swasthya Bima Yojana,” which has given insurance coverage to 88% of families in the state. In this area, Rajasthan leads the nation as a whole. 1.34 crore families are receiving free medical care through the programme in both public and private hospitals.

For the treatment of 18 lakh patients up to this point, more than Rs 2,202 crore has been spent. This programme offers the ability for kidney, heart, and liver transplants. In line with this programme, he demanded that the Center expand the scope of the “Ayushman Bharat Swasthya Bima Yojana.”

Gehlot also advocated for expanding the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana’s assistance to farmers.

He claimed that the Rajasthani government has established a separate agriculture budget and is providing each farmer’s family with a benefit of Rs 1,000 per month as an electricity subsidy. According to him, the central government should increase its percentage of all agricultural-related programmes to 75%.

The state’s newly established colleges in scheduled areas were given a special grant similar to those given to North Eastern states, and the chief minister also called for the establishment of a global university in Rajasthan. The 15th Finance Commission’s recommendation to provide a central grant of Rs 400 crore to the Digital University in Rajasthan was demanded to be put into effect by the Chief Minister during the meeting. The State Government is prepared to spend Rs 200, he claimed.
