The Expert Evaluation Committee (EAC) of the Joint Ministry of Environment has awarded the Environmental Permit (EC) for the third phase of the Chennai-Bangalore Expressway Project. It requires an investment of Rs 3,472 crore to travel 106 kilometers.
The project aims to connect Sriperumbudur with Gudipala in Andhra Pradesh. At present, motorists in Chennai prefer to take the Vellore-Hosur route to reach Bangalore, which takes at least 6 to 7 hours, but the project will shorten it to 4 hours by car. The project involves the construction of 54 bridges, 13 vehicle subways and 6 toll plazas.
The idea is to build a highway on the existing highway to reduce travel time. As compensation, the National Highway Administration of India (NHAI) has promised EAC that it will plant about 169,000 trees along the road project, which is expected to benefit more than 50,000 cars every day.
