CPWD Invites Bids for ₹162.48 crore Hostel Project at IIT Gandhinagar

At IIT Gandhinagar in Gujarat, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has released a request for bids to develop student dormitory structures and related facilities. As a component of Phase-2A, the project included the construction of a dining hall (B+G+2), a sub-station (G+2), and 12 hostel buildings with rooms for single, double, and triple occupancy.

In addition, it includes substation equipment under EPC (Mode-II), exterior development works, lifts, UPS, CCTV, street lighting, overhead and subsurface water tanks, pumps, and internal electrical installations, as well as firefighting and alarm systems.

The contract, which has a value of ₹162.48 crore, will be finished in 24 months, with three months allocated for planning, design, and approvals and 21 months for work execution and completion.

In July 2024, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) issued an invitation for bids to construct student hostel facilities at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar, located in Palaj village, Gujarat. This initiative, part of the institute’s Phase-2A development, is valued at ₹162.48 crore and aims to enhance the residential infrastructure for its growing student population.

Project Specifications

The project encompasses the development of 12 hostel blocks, each designed with a ground-plus-four (G+4) floor structure. These blocks will offer a mix of single, double, and triple occupancy rooms to accommodate diverse student needs. In addition to the residential units, the plan includes the construction of a dining hall with a basement, ground, and two upper floors (B+G+2), as well as a sub-station building (G+2) to support the institute’s infrastructure requirements.

The scope of work extends beyond mere construction. It involves comprehensive internal services such as electrical installations, fire fighting systems, fire alarm setups, lift installations, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance,

street lighting. Furthermore, the project includes the development of external infrastructure, encompassing the installation of overhead and underground water tanks, pump systems, and overall site development to ensure a conducive living environment for students

Contractual Framework and Timeline

The CPWD has structured this project under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Mode-II contract framework. The total project duration is set at 24 months, which is divided into two phases: an initial three-month period dedicated to planning, design, and obtaining necessary approvals, followed by a 21-month phase focused on the execution and completion of construction activities.

Bidding Process

Prospective contractors and firms specializing in large-scale educational infrastructure projects are invited to participate in the bidding process. The deadline for bid submission is 25 July 2024, providing interested parties with a defined window to prepare and submit their proposals.
