Delhi Airport Unveils

CMRL Plans Regional Rapid Transit System for Parandur Airport Connectivity

Chennai Metro Rail Limited is exploring a Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) to improve connectivity between two corridors: Chennai Airport to Parandur via Sriperumbudur and Chennai-Kancheepuram-Vellore via Parandur. The semi-high-speed RRTS aims to provide fast, frequent, and efficient transport to distant suburbs and neighboring districts.

A feasibility study for the project is set to begin soon. The Central government has granted in-principle approval to expand the Palasuni bridge over Gangua Nala into a six-lane structure to reduce congestion in Bhubaneswar.

NHPC has invited bids for a 2.56 MW rooftop solar project in Nagaland under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. G R Infraprojects has been selected as the preferred bidder for an NHAI project under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH).

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has initiated plans for a Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) to improve connectivity to the upcoming Parandur International Airport. The proposed high-speed corridor aims to provide seamless and efficient transit between Chennai city and the new airport, which is expected to be a major aviation hub in Tamil Nadu.

The RRTS is being designed as a dedicated high-speed rail link, reducing travel time and offering a reliable alternative to road-based transport. With Parandur located approximately 70 km from Chennai, the new transit system will ensure quick and convenient access for with existing metro and railway networks to enhance last-mile connectivity.

CMRL is currently conducting feasibility studies to determine the best alignment, mode of operation, and funding model for the project. The government is considering public-private partnership (PPP) models to finance and implement the system. The RRTS is expected to feature trains, smart ticketing, and real-time tracking systems to enhance passenger experience.

The development of a rapid transit link to Parandur is crucial, as the airport is projected to handle millions of passengers annually. Ensuring smooth access will not only boost Chennai’s air travel sector but also promote economic growth in the surrounding regions. The state government and CMRL part of broader urban mobility and infrastructure expansion efforts.

Once operational, the RRTS will significantly cut down travel time, decongest major highways, and support sustainable urban transport. The project aligns with the government’s vision of modernizing Chennai’s transportation network and positioning the city as a leading transit hub in South India.
