Centre sanctions ₹1,828 cr for urban infra projects

Urban infrastructure development projects of 1,828 crore have been authorised by the Union government for Puducherry as part of the Smart City Mission and are scheduled to be finished by June 2023. The projects are in industries and e-commerce, as well as the tourism and heritage, power, affordable housing programme, education, 24 hour water supply, sewage health, solid waste, urban drainage, and optical fibre sectors.

At a cost of 9.66 crore and 18.03 crore, respectively, development is underway on a small sports stadium at Anna Thidal and 220 affordable housing units for economically disadvantaged groups at Chinnayapuram. In addition, the Mission would focus on enhancing the government Botanical Garden, the Grand Canal’s aesthetics, and the urban forest area of Swadeshi mills.
