The establishment of a container terminal at Tuna-Tekra, Deendayal Port in Gujarat under the public private partnership model has been approved by the Union Cabinet. The projected project cost of Rs. 4,243.64 crore will be borne by the concessionaire, while the estimated cost of common user facilities for development would be borne by the concessioning authority at Rs. 296.20 crore.
The concessionaire will be free to deepen or widen its approach channel, berth pocket, and turning circle in order to accommodate vessels with a maximum draught of 18 metres for the duration of the concession.
A private developer will be chosen through an international competitive bidding process to develop the project on a BOT (Build Operate Transfer) basis. The project’s design, engineering, financing, procurement, implementation, commissioning, operation, management, and maintenance will all be handled by the concessionaire.
