BMC plans to construct a 280 crore bridge in South Mumbai

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to build a two-way vehicular bridge between E Moses Road and Annie Besant Road at Worli for a total investment of 280 crore to unclog Worli Naka (junction) in South Mumbai and increase footfall at Nehru Science Centre, Nehru Centre Art Gallery, and Nehru Planetarium.

The 571-meter bridge will span the nullah adjacent to the Nehru Science Centre, and in addition to the vehicular bridge, BMC will build a pedestrian underpass between the two buildings, which are about 500 metres apart and popular with schoolchildren and families. Visitors must, however, navigate heavy traffic on the two major roads to get between any of these three locations.

Worli Naka is a major intersection that connects Lower Worli, Lower Parel, Elphinstone or Prabhadevi, Mahalaxmi, and Upper Worli. From Worli Naka, E Moses Road and Annie Besant Road branch out in opposite directions. While E Moses Road is home to the Worli Engineering Hub, the Nehru Science.

Centre, and the Four Seasons Hotel, Annie Besant Road is home to the Atria Mall, the National Sports Club of India, and Lala Lajpat Rai College, and connects the Worli Naka to Haji Ali Junction. BMC will also improve the turn onto Annie Besant Road at the Worli naka  intersection as part of the project.
