The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has begun construction on the second phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project. The 36.2-km coastal road will connect Marine Drive in south Mumbai to Kandivali in the northwest. The ₹9,980-crore project is part of the BMC’s larger plan to build a 96-km coastal road from Nariman Point to Kandivali.

The first phase of the project, which is currently under construction, is a 27.8-km stretch from Marine Drive to Kandivali. The second phase will cover the remaining 8.4-km from Kandivali to the Western Express Highway.

The BMC has awarded the contract for the second phase to Hindustan Construction Company. The company has been given a deadline of 30 months to complete the project.
